In Singapore in 2002 Russell Miller noticed that there were many entrepreneurs that were in our everyday lives but seemingly were overlooked as models of inspiration. He was soon joined by Tan Kin Lian a Singaporean business leader and entrepreneur who added ideas and enthusiasm. From the initial insights came the seeds that have blossomed into the Sprit of Enterprise to encourage all to honour even the most humble of entrepreneurs and inspire others to follow their entrepreneurial footsteps.

It is an economic fact that the more small and medium sized businesses that are created in an economy the better the overall economy will do. Hence jobs will be created and opportunities will be enhanced. In some cultures there is a bias favoring working for the government or very large organizations. Although there is definitely a need for skilled employees in these sectors; the entrepreneurial spirit should be encouraged as well. SOE tries to do this through its many programs.

MAURITIUS

Mauritius was established through the efforts of Maurice Lam a businessesman and entrepreneur who lives and works in both Mauritius and Singapore. Through his efforts Mauritius was established in 2005 and held its first Honors event that year. With a turnover in government a number of SOE board members were called to serve in government in 2006.

VIETNAM

Vietnam started with a group of generous advisors starting in late 2005 and an Executive Director joined in 2007. The Vietnam National University Hanoi Business School www.hsb.edu.vn and the Foreign Trade University www.ftu.edu.vn have already begun their participation. CHINA

China began in 2008. Led by Executive Director, Vim Zhang, a strong local board of governors, and volunteers, SOE China has grown and expanded its programs. They have  the participation of more than 200 entrepreneurs, and hundreds of student interviewers from more than twenty universities. There will be several forums in 2010 and the third book of  entrepreneur’s stories will be published and distributed to universities as well as being available in bookstores throughout China. www.soe.org.cn

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

The United States was formed in 2007 with the coming together of a group of like minded individuals who want to help expand Spirit of Enterprise throughout Asia. The USA is not incorporated and it acts as an advisory group and to help expand SOE by donations directed through Give2Asia. http://www.give2asia.org/
