FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES :
  General needs:

Student Interviews: Students are given a stipend to interview entrepreneurs with the results published on the SOE web site. The best student interviews are given a cash prize. Those interviewed are designated “nominees” for the SOE Awards. Those chosen are designated “Honorees”. $20,000

Honours Ceremony: through a public vote through the net site and the decision of the board of governors out of the 200 or so nominees (all those interviewed) about 40 are chosen as Honorees and feted at a public ceremony hosted by SOE and attended by senior government, business, educational, and public leaders as well as the honourees and their family. $40,000

Primary School Stipend: Funds are given to primary school students to start a business within their schools with a mentor from SOE board. The capital is returned at the end of the year with a report and other schools are funded. Profits go to the school. If a loss occurs then the students write a paper on why and are refunded to make the point that failure can the route to success. This is an innovative idea in parts of Asia. $20,000

Books Distribution to university and other business school classes: Each year SOE buys and distributes an annual book created from the interviews conducted by students and posted on the SOE web site. These are practical stories and guidance on entrepreneurship. The book is available through the publishers in leading bookstores. Four books in Singapore and one in Mauritius have been published. $16,000

Web updates and maintenance - $5,000

  For the USA:

Proposed programs: Unfunded today

Student exchange: have four student interviewers from Mauritius, Singapore, Vietnam and others countries as they become establish SOE meet in Singapore for a two week series of courses at a local university and “interning” at local businesses to see how business is done in a fully transparent, regulated yet very free environment.

Like any student program it would be a mixture of exposure to each other’s cultures, styles and methods, class work, meeting with entrepreneurs and government leaders and some fun.

Costs would involve: airfares, local housing such as university housing, or volunteer homes, and “walking around” stipend.

Probable costs: depending on what countries are added presently would be approx $ 15,000 (Mauritius, Vietnam, in Singapore)

For Singapore:
For Mauritius:
For Vietnam:
  Establishing Vietnam on secure footing:

Vietnam has started with a “spark grant” from USA of $10,000 and to have a sufficient basic program it needs help though a three year period.

Probable costs: basic program $25,000 additional this year; $50,000 the second year as it expands country wide, and $60,000 full run rate year three.

For China, Thailand and Malaysia:

Initial funding is needed to get SOE going in these countries that have expressed interest in getting started.

Local board should have SOE self sustaining within four years hence each year after the first should require less help. Thailand has a group of businessmen who have expressed initial interest. The same is true for Malaysia.

Probable cost: $150,000 per country first year ( in China because of their size, each city is treated a “country”)

Note : All donor amounts shown here are in U.S. dollars
